Awesome, at some point in their careers, someone’s head going to pop off from all that neck-grinding.

Blood Red Throne is an awesome band.

Boris, Live at the Bowery Ballroom

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Wata from BorisLast night. I caught Boris, one of my all-time favorite Drone Doom bands, live at the Bowery Ballroom with Michio Kurihara. Without a doubt, it was one of the best concerts I have been to in a good long while. Boris has a massive sound live. My ear filters were put to the test and yet I still went to bed with my ears ringing. I’d never been to the Bowery Ballroom before. It’s a pretty nice place. I spent perhaps a little too much time in the bar downstairs, skipping the opening acts that I didn’t give a fuck about in favor of a good number of Stellas. I ended up with a greasy, green and morbid motherfucker of a hangover this morning because of it. Still, I had a crazy good time head-banging in the middle of a bunch of posers who have no clue about Doom Metal. I love Boris.

As usual, I took a ridiculous amount of photos and uploaded them to a Flickr set. Feel free to check them out.

Everybody Loves a Chubby Dude

TurbonegroLast night, I saw Turbonegro, one of my all-time favorite bands, perform at the Nokia Theater here in New York. I’ve never seen them live before and while I’m jaded in their favor due to being a fan, I really was pretty unprepared for exactly how truly fucking awesome they are in person. Norwegian fucking Death Punk! Hank From Hell was totally hilarious, shaking his blubber all over the place and Happy Tom is the fucking man. Easily one of the best concerts I’ve been to. Denim, lipstick, mascara and some fucking rouge.

I took almost two hundred photos that night and have uploaded them to a flickr set. Feel free to view them at your leisure.

Obituary is Good Metal

[Obituary]This last Wednesday, I went to see Stoner Metal band, Alabama Thunderpussy and the Death Metal act, Obituary at B.B. King here in New York. Early in the evening, I managed to get myself fairly liquidated at an after-work Happy Hour, where I downed something like eight beers and somehow severely bruised the top of my right foot (which at this moment is all swollen and weeping for Jesus).

Once I got to the concert, I laid off the juice and managed to have a pretty good time. I was kind of underwhelmed by Alabama Thunderpussy, but I could see them being a lot better in a smaller venue. Obituary was balls-out fucking awesome. I don’t really get into too many Death Metal bands. There’s a few I like, but generally I prefer other metal genres. Still, Obituary was great, being one of the better Death Metal shows I’ve been to.

I brought my super-cool new camera with me, but I haven’t quite figured out the extremely low-light shooting techniques, so of the 200-ish shots, a little less than a hundred came out worth saving. I’ve uploaded them to a flickr set, feel free to check them out.

Pukey Toes

Weedeater 7_21_07Last Friday night, I went to a club on Avenue B. and saw Stoner Doom bands Wooly Mammoth and Weedeater. It was a fairly cool small space in a basement. I dug both bands, having never heard Wooly Mammoth before. Their bassist was mammoth-like and rocked the fuck out. Weedeater was awesome. They play a lot faster live as opposed to their albums and their bass player is a fucking wildman. I was right up against the small stage and as their last song began, he started chugging all the liquor within reach of him, which was a good amount. Mid-song, he leans over and vomits onto the stage, puke-splashing my feet and sandles, never missing a beat. Immediately after he spews the contents of his stomach onto the floor directly in front of me, he goes back to singing. Unbeknown to me, the guy does this every time they play a show.

More Black Metal video

1349 was not a band I immediately liked upon first hearing. As time went on I came to appreciate them, grabbing all their albums. Unlike Burzum, Immortal, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth and a lot of the other second wave Black Metal bands I love, 1349 has a very blitzkrieg and unruly style. It’s fast, raw and chaotic Black Metal.

Blasphemous Black Metal video

Monday, June 4th, 2007

What is perhaps my all-time favorite Black Metal band, Gorgoroth, has finally made their first music video. The song is “Carving A Giant”, off the album they released last year. A bit late, but nearly all of them were in prison at the time so it had to wait, I guess. The video’s an attempt at recreating their infamous 2004 concert in Poland that resulted in blasphemy charges and the police seizing all video of the event, which was being filmed for a DVD (three years later, the band has still not received the footage from the police).

Awesome. Gorgoroth are hardcore, motherfuckers. Gaahl rules. Here’s a link in case the above embedded video isn’t coming through for you.
