Happiness is a dead baby in a jar

[image: preserved conjoined twins]I spent the weekend in Philadelphia, walking all over the place. I dig Philly, it’s a beautiful city. I loved the neighborhoods, the small carriage streets and the old buildings. The food was great. The Fine Art museum was kick-ass. It was all great, but the Mütter Museum was the single most epic, bad-ass experience I’ve had in years.

I don’t think I can express just how fucking cool the Mütter Musuem was, so I’ll just describe what I saw there. Conjoined Siamese, harelipped twins, floating in lime Gatorade-green formaldehyde. Babies born without brains. Cyclopean babies. An eight foot long colon, dried and stuffed with hay. One doctor’s meticulously cataloged collection of foreign objects found lodged in his patient’s throats. A wall of skulls detailing the race, region, name and cause of death. A little girl with her skin completely removed, leaving the circulatory and muscular system exposed, lacquered and hung as if crucified. A 200-plus year-old woman whose corpse has completely turned to adipose (basically soap), lying in a glass case, all black and gnarly with an expression on her face like she’s screaming. Lots and lots of dead babies!!! I was like a kid in a candy store.

I have to go back.
