Site update

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

This site’s not going anywhere. I think I’m just going to take a vacation for a bit. I’m working slowly on a redesign. Best thing to do is subscribe to the RSS feed (you’ll also find a link at the bottom of the right-hand sidebar on this page), that way you’ll be alerted when things start picking up again. Anyways, like I said… short vacation.

Thanks,
daveb

Photo album…Oooo looky

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

If you glance to your right at the sidebar, under the heading of Navigate, you’ll see a new link called ‘Photos‘. Clicking this link will allow you to browse a shitload of pictures I’ve taken in the past 4-5 years. All the images are actually hosted on my Flickr account, but I am using a WordPress plugin called Falbum that makes use of Flickr’s API. It’s neat. It’s purty. I likes it.

I’ve got everything working, but please bear with me as over the next couple days I tweak things here and there with this photo album.

Severed connections

Friday, July 1st, 2005

If you’ve visited this site recently and noticed a big fat WordPress connection error instead of my blog, I apologize and ask you to please bear with. I switched hosts recently and apparantly they are having problems with their MySQL. They tell me they’re working on it so I’ll give them a couple more days, but if the issue’s not resolved, I’ll be moving this site elsewhere. If you visit and do happen to get the error message, try checking back in a few minutes, it usually remedies itself. Again, sorry for the trouble.

Redesign 8.5 cont.

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

Except for a couple very recent posts which I’m not particularly worried about losing, all posts from the old blog have been imported and incorporated within the current blog you happen to be reading now (you lazy fat fucking worm, quit jerking off and get back to work). Notice all the posts? All the categories? Originally, the plan was to just archive all the old stuff separately, but I ended up importing it so to keep site searching a bit more easier.

Commenting and trackbacking are both enabled, but pretty heavily policed as the old blog was slammed by spammers on a regular basis. I’m employing a bunch of different methods so if you are finding you cannot comment or are having any trouble, let me know what you were doing and what happened.

There’s a whole shitload of links running down the left side. They should all be pretty self-explanatory and will continue to be added to.

Redesign 8.5

Monday, May 23rd, 2005

Welcome back and a hearty totonka to you all.

So after a few minutes of deep thought and some counting on my fingers, I’m placing this redesign at version 8.5. The old blog that I ran here from 2001-2005 will be uploaded shortly as an archive. I’ll be finishing off this site over the next few weeks, so bear with. Everything should be working correctly, but if you find a broken link or something looks off, let me know so I can make amends.

With this redesign, I have made the move from Movable Type to an open source publishing platform called WordPress, the main reason merely being personally disposed towards anything open source. MT is a great setup, but having tried WP, I find it’s lighter, faster and along with being a whole new bag of tricks, seems more fun.

Occasionally things get completely screwed to pieces

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

Over the couse of an evening, daveb’s blog setup has developed a few hiccups. He’s not really sure what the fuck caused it. It started with some missing posts, which have since returned, but the current snafu of the page suddenly looking all fucked up on certain browsers has got him knackered. If you notice some things have gone whacky, bear with, he’ll fix it but he’s lazy.
